Grieving Process - The Cherokee Release Style

Grieving for a departed Loved One? Try this.

Some native American Indians believe that when someone dies, they are actually passing on into the world of nature. So after a death, the relatives and friends of the dead person take a long walk into nature and say hello to the person in the trees, in the rocks, in the river. They bring the person into themselves as nature and they let the person go as a person. The person then exists forever in nature and forever within us.

The bringing in and letting go process after someone close to you dies—

  1. Take a walk in as much nature as you can find.
  2. Think of the person and see them in the trees, the sky, the earth, and in all of nature around you.
  3. Imagine bringing their essence into yourself, make an actual motion of doing it with your arms.
  4. Then release the person to be in nature, also with a gesture and take a deep breath as they pass out of you and into nature.
  5. Then say "Hello friend (or their name)" to the trees, the sky and the earth.
  6. Know that you will keep them always in your heart for they are now a part of you and they are also in nature.

I was introduced to this therapy from a dear friend grieving for his daughter. I thought it was so beautiful that I ought to share it with you too.
