Excerpt from an Interview with Jim Macsay from Radio ‘Z’ Zurich (1998) on The Age of Aquarius.

QUOTE

J. Margo please tell us about the Age of Aquarius and what it means.
M. Remember the musical ‘Hair’ in the 60s and the famous song ‘This is dawning of the age of aquarius’, already then certain groups of people were aware. What we are currently experiencing, the individual discontent, the chaos, the turmoil, the falling apart of relationships and institutions: economical, political, educational, religious, i.e. the end of communism, the globalization movement, the unity of east and west, spirituality and science, unity of all opposites, group consciousness etc. All of this is due to the energies of the new age of Aquarius, which influence the whole planet as well as all living beings.
J. How does this differ from before, please tell us more?
M. Well for the past two thousand plus years, we have been under the influence of the Pisces age energy influences; this meant for us the industrial age, the age of separatism, the age of selfishness and individualization. The ‘I’ was important and accumulation of material goodies was important too. Now that we are entering the age of aquarius the energies are changing to holistic views, harmony, sharing, unity and group rather than individual consciousness. It is not ‘I’ that is important but ‘we’. The reason why we had to go through the individual growth process and many still are going through this process presently, is because of the fact that, in order to be a part of a group and contribute to the group consciousness, we each need to develop our consciousness individually. We need to grow from an emotional level to a mental level in order to understand and be an active part of group consciousness.
J. Why do you call your work Practical Life Philosophy?
M. Because I focus my work on keeping self growth very practical and doable in daily life. It is too easy to reach nirvana if and when one is sitting on top of a mountain in solitude and quiet far away from the daily hub and demands. Once we get back to our daily lives all of the new found peace is forgotten (in most cases) and we find ourselves back in to our old habits, in the daily rut and stress. The major challenge now is that we need to find this inner peace right here and now while we are going about our daily business. We need to carry this inner peace within us all the time. This is another aspect of the new aquarius age, ancient wisdom has been esoteric in the past, for many long centuries, kept secret for the privileged few, whereas today there are no secrets any more. The barriers have been lifted and information is available to everyone who is interested in researching the science of energies. Esoteric information is a science and needs to be studied and understood.
J. Tell us some more on how you help people to deal with the overwhelming changes in our environment.
M. I focus on the internal values, and the first is to change one’s attitude towards life in general, one’s habits and thoughts. I combine the philosophy of the ancient wisdom with western psychology in my training.
J. You have a multi disciplinary coaching technique I believe. Tell us more about that.
M. Well, I include Indian yoga methods, meditation and visualization techniques. Raja yoga which is mind training. My work also includes Chinese healing methods such as acupressure and moxa therapy. I also use many relaxing as well as energizing exercise techniques mostly from the eastern schools: Indian, Chinese and Sufism. The main goal is to bring out the best potential in every individual. To discover and activate the inner self which is always there but perhaps dormant and sadly too often forgotten.
J. Can you give us some quick tips on Change?
M. Perhaps the best is to list the obstacles that make change very difficult for us. I mention these in my book on Change. They are inertia, in other words plain laziness, physical, emotional and mental inertia. Procrastination, which is always putting off for tomorrow what you don’t feel like or what you don’t like doing today; then there is lack of self esteem, which is insecurities that rob you of your energy and stop you from moving forward. Fear is the worst of all obstacles because fear paralyzes you. It is very difficult to get rid of fear but it is possible. Then there is hanging on to the past and we all know that one, not being able to let go. Bad habits is another big obstacle, we are all slaves to our habits, good and bad but they are mostly bad! Unfortunately! The last is lack of faith and self esteem. Lack of self confidence, without which you can seldom go very far.
J. Obviously we cannot go into details about how to rid ourselves of these obstacles, but perhaps you can give us one last quick tip?
M. If you can observe yourself and become aware of your obstacles, then you’ve already taken a huge step forward. It is hard to admit to oneself that one is lazy, afraid or insecure. But once you are able to be honest with yourself, to take this first step then the rest, the healing and the relearning process will follow if you are prepared to make the effort.
J. Thank you Margo.
